Effect’s design lineage
Dependency injection14 supplies service implementations to the code that needs them. Resource safety means cleaning up resources after use. Concurrency control manages work that runs at the same time.¶
Michael traces the first Effect implementation to a team’s need for dependency injection, tests, resource safety, concurrency control, and retries in TypeScript. Effect Days 2024, 08:40.¶
ZIO is a Scala library for describing effects. John De Goes describes Effect as adapting ZIO’s goals to TypeScript through iterations rather than copying it directly. Cause & Effect 10, 48:01 49:49.¶
See Effect Days 20246 and Cause & Effect 106.¶
